One word: Sangria
Every once in awhile, around these parts, we get a hankerin’ for a change from the ordinary alcoholic beverage. Beer and wine are good, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes you want or need something a little more special, particularly when you’re entertaining.
Enter: Sangria. Summer’s sweet delight!
Our favorite recipe for sangria actually comes from that woman we all love to hate — Martha Stewart. But it’s a can’t-miss recipe with just the right balance of flavors. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Summer Sangria

4 oranges: 2 juiced, 2 halved lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise (you can also use full-pulp prepared OJ if you’re lazy like my husband ![]()
1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brandy
1 bottle dry red wine, chilled (we usually use merlot)
2 lemons, thinly sliced
2 cups seltzer or club soda
Chilled ice cubes, for serving
In a large pitcher, combine orange juice, sugar, and brandy; stir well to dissolve sugar. Add wine, orange slices, lemon slices, and seltzer; stir to combine. Fill glasses with ice before serving. Serves 8. (Very easy to double or triple as needed
